The Calculate tab

The asset value is the only required input: down payment and buyout are optional, and if you leave them empty you get the calculation for a plain loan. Term and rate are set with sliders, and the result updates as you type.

The in advance or in arrears switch changes when you pay: in advance, the first payment is due straight away, the principal starts going down sooner, less interest accrues and the payment drops slightly. Below you see the monthly payment, total cost and interest, with a bar showing how the cost splits between down payment, payments and buyout.

The schedule, line by line

The Payments tab is the full schedule: the down payment at the top, every payment with its due date, the buyout at the end. For each line, the principal portion, interest portion and outstanding principal. The due dates start from the date you set for the first payment.

It exports to CSV — ISO dates and a decimal point, ready for a spreadsheet — and to PDF, already laid out for printing. The file is created on the phone and goes to the iOS share sheet.

The Compare tab

It answers two questions that the payment alone can’t: how much a higher down payment is worth, and what a higher buyout really costs. For each lever you see five scenarios — 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40% of the asset value — with the matching payment and the total cost underneath, and a dot marks the scenario closest to yours.

This is where the trade-off shows: raising the buyout lowers the payment but raises the overall cost, because you keep paying interest on that sum until the end. The “Summary” card puts numbers on it, using the figures from your contract.

What it doesn’t calculate

The payment is a correct estimate of the financial component only. A real contract may include arrangement fees, insurance, taxes and services the app knows nothing about — for a binding offer, you need the leasing company. The interest you see includes the buyout: it’s the difference between what you pay in total and the asset value.

If you’re looking at a mortgage instead, Mortgage Calculator does the same job with French amortisation.

Free, and the ads can go

Leasing Calculators is free and complete, supported by ads. You can decline both Google’s consent and Apple’s tracking: the ads stay but aren’t personalised, and the app works exactly the same. And the ads can be removed: an annual subscription, or a one-time purchase that lasts forever.

The old paid version is now called Leasing Legacy: it keeps working but no longer gets updates. If you bought it, you can move to Leasing Calculators without ads and without paying again — the support page explains how.
